Today I want to share 3 different scriptures that Mormon has included in the BoM that show us and teach that God always fulfills his promises.
👉Fulfillment of Promise of the Lord to Mosiah and his sons
Alma 25:17
17 And now behold, Ammon, and Aaron, and Omner, and Himni, and their brethren did rejoice exceedingly, for the success which they had had among the Lamanites, seeing that the Lord had granted unto them according to their prayers, and that he had also verified his word unto them in every particular
Student manual:
One of the great lessons that emerges from this section of the book of Alma is that God always keeps His promises. The Lord had told King Mosiah that many would believe his sons’ teachings and that He would deliver them “out of the hands of the Lamanites” (Mosiah 28:7). For the fulfillment of these promises, see Alma 17:4, 35–39; 19:22–23; 26:1–4. For the sake of time, I will not read them; however, these numerous scriptural illustrations reinforce the doctrinal truth that God is bound when we do what He says.
D&C 82:10 I, the Lord, am bound when ye do what I say; but when ye do not what I say, ye have no promise.
👉Fulfillment of the promise of the Lord to Alma and Abinadi RE the destruction of the Ammonihahites Alma 16
Student manual:
Alma pleaded with “great anxiety” from the “inmost part” of his heart for the people of Ammonihah to repent (Alma 13:27). As their prophet, Alma warned them to repent or be utterly destroyed “from off the face of the earth” (Alma 9:12). In D&C 1:37-38 we read the Lord has promised to fulfill all the words of his prophets.(*read below). In Alma 16, Mormon documents the fulfillment of the words of Alma by recording the destruction of those who rejected the prophets and executed the innocent. Alma16:2–3, 9–10 (*read below)
D&C 1:37-38
37 Search these commandments, for they are true and faithful, and the prophecies and promises which are in them shall all be fulfilled. 38 What I the Lord have spoken, I have spoken, and I excuse not myself; and though the heavens and the earth pass away, my word shall not pass away, but shall all be fulfilled, whether by mine own voice or by the voice of my servants, it is the same.
Alma 16:9-10
And thus ended the eleventh year of the judges, the Lamanites having been driven out of the land, and the people of Ammonihah were destroyed; yea, every living soul of the Ammonihahites was destroyed, and also their great city, which they said God could not destroy, because of its greatness. 10 But behold, in one day it was left desolate; and the carcasses were mangled by dogs and wild beasts of the wilderness.
👉Fulfillment of the promises of the Lord to Abinadi Mosiah 17 & Alma 25
Alma 25:1–12 records the fulfillment of Abinadi’s prophecy regarding the wicked priests of King Noah (see Mosiah 17:15–20 below).
Mosiah 17:15-20
Behold, even as ye have done unto me, so shall it come to pass that thy seed shall cause that many shall suffer the pains that I do suffer, even the pains of death by fire; and this because they believe in the salvation of the Lord their God. 16 And it will come to pass that ye shall be afflicted with all manner of diseases because of your iniquities. 17 Yea, and ye shall be smitten on every hand, and shall be driven and scattered to and fro, even as a wild flock is driven by wild and ferocious beasts. 18 And in that day ye shall be hunted, and ye shall be taken by the hand of your enemies, and then ye shall suffer, as I suffer, the pains of death by fire. 19 Thus God executeth vengeance upon those that destroy his people. O God, receive my soul. 20 And now, when Abinadi had said these words, he fell, having suffered death by fire; yea, having been put to death because he would not deny the commandments of God, having sealed the truth of his words by his death.
I love this declaration from Gideon (servant of King Limhi) found in Mosiah 20:21 For are not the words of Abinadi fulfilled, which he prophesied against us—and all this because we would not hearken unto the words of the Lord, and turn from our iniquities?
Student manual:
Once again, note how Mormon documented for the reader the fulfillment of the prophecies of Abinadi. (And I add Mosiahs sons and Alma to the Ammonihahites) Consider the results of those who reject the prophets, like Abinadi (and Alma) and claim that the prophet has sinned. Modern revelation in D&C 121:16–22 also contains a warning to those who “lift up the heel against mine anointed”
16 Cursed are all those that shall lift up the heel against mine anointed, saith the Lord, and cry they have sinned when they have not sinned before me, saith the Lord, but have done that which was meet in mine eyes, and which I commanded them. 17 But those who cry transgression do it because they are the servants of sin, and are the children of disobedience themselves. 18 And those who swear falsely against my servants, that they might bring them into bondage and death— 19 Wo unto them; because they have offended my little ones they shall be severed from the ordinances of mine house. 20 Their basket shall not be full, their houses and their barns shall perish, and they themselves shall be despised by those that flattered them. 21 They shall not have right to the priesthood, nor their posterity after them from generation to generation. 22 It had been better for them that a millstone had been hanged about their necks, and they drowned in the depth of the sea.
This scripture teaches us how vital it is for us to listen and obey our Prophets. I'd also like to reiterate how Mormon went to great lengths and detail to show us that the Lord always keeps His promises and when the Prophet prophecies to us, we can know and trust that those prophecies will be fulfilled. Pres Nelson has been trying to prepare us for the Second coming and as we understand and look for the signs of the times, we know it is very close. Some may say that God has changed his mind or somethings will not be fulfilled but I know just as these scriptures teach us that God always keeps His promises. We just need to look to our Prophets, listen and obey and in time we will see the fulfillment of all that the Lord has promised. I look forward to the coming days and the fulfillment of all that has been prophesied.
For me personally as I study these scriptures, the prophesy that the Lord wants me to consider and exercise faith in is the physical gathering of Israel. I know after the spiritual gathering comes the physical gathering. We are not taught this very much, but just read chapt 42 in the Gospel Principles manual for a simplified understanding of the gathering.
The scriptures teach me as the tribe of Ephraim, I am to be gathered to the americas. I live in Australia and so I know as many others around the world know, that I am not currently residing in my promised land. When I study the old testament, the BoM and the D&C I read of boundless promises and prophecies of the redemption of Zion. I believe the reason Mormon included these above examples in the BoM is to strengthen my faith and trust in HF and to help me know that even though I currently live far away, He has a plan for me. I will not be forgotten. He has prepared a way. If I just stay faithful to Him as a disciple of Christ, I will be gathered into my land of inheritance and receive the promised blessings. I would like to close with one last scripture of promise from the Lord which is found in 3 Nephi 16:5
5 And then will I gather them in from the four quarters of the earth; and then will I fulfil the covenant which the Father hath made unto all the people of the house of Israel.
I know the physical gathering to be true. It is soon and I invite anyone who is unsure of the how, to trust and exercise faith by preparing to gather in whatever way the Lord dictates, so that you can receive the promised blessings, and I share these things in the name of Jesus Christ Amen
